Individual and Family Counseling

Individual and Family Counseling

A cancer diagnosis can be a devastating event for some people, a life-changing event for others and a time for reflecting and processing for all involved. Many newly diagnosed people have family and friends who are concerned and step in to help and support; this can be helpful but also may be overwhelming as the person begins to process and understand how their lives have changed and what the future looks like with possible surgeries and treatment protocols.

It can be of tremendous benefit to have a trained professional counselor to help put the cancer diagnosis and the overwhelming feelings and concerns into perspective. While family and friends are vital at this time, it is of benefit to have an impartial observer to talk with and share concerns that may be too scary to talk with family and friends about. Often the newly diagnosed person finds themselves protecting others from the concerns they too are experiencing.

It is the goal of Wellness House to make the cancer journey as tolerable as possible for all involved. With trained and licensed professionals available to support the individual and family through support groups and individual support, the journey can be tolerable and even a positive growth experience. Though no one would choose cancer as a way to be introspective, self-aware, and develop a deeper understanding of the meaning of life; these are benefits that a person and family experiencing cancer can realize with support of a caring empathic listener.

Wellness House offers individual counseling and support groups for the cancer patient as well as caregivers and family members. Cancer in a family can be a very difficult time for children. Wellness House counselors can support parents in how to talk with their children about cancer a well as offering support groups for children of all ages.
